That faithful day changed everything
I had never been lucky enough to interact with Stars before. I remember when I was crazy about Nsync and Immature and never once was I able to see them up close or meet them. But everything started to change one that faithful day in 2005, when I was working at my computer and had on the tv. I looked and saw this cute guy singing. I turn the volume on so that I can hear his voice, and knew at that time, that there was something special about him. I didn't know his name or the name of the song. All I knew was that Usher was going to have some problems soon. A few days later, I saw the same video on BET and this time, I made sure to look for the singer name. The singer was Ne-Yo.
A few weeks later, Ne-Yo new video, "So Sick" came out and now his name was all over. His song was on the radio a lot more now, everyone knew the name Ne-Yo. One of my co-workers told me about how she's going to Club Speeed to see Ne-Yo perform, and if I wanted to come with her. This performance was going to be his first performance in NY. I wasn't too sure if I should go because I was feeling a bit lazy. And my co-worker couldn't go anymore, so it was just going to be me. I wasn't sure if he was going to make it big but I knew that I didn't want to miss a chance to see him live. So I went and I'm glad I did. He was awesome and his voice was for real. He even started to sing "Oh I think they like me".
So, I was listening to the radio, and they had a contest to win tickets for a concert that was going to have him. I didn't believe that people won on the radio, but I wanted to try and win those tickets. So, I kept calling Hot 97 like crazy for three days. Than I finally got to won but it wasn't tickets I won, it was sneakers. I still was very happy but I never won anything before.
The following week, Ne-Yo album was coming out and Power 105.1 was giving away Meet and Greet Passes to meet him. I just called in and kept at it till a woman picked up and asked me which I want, Lil Kim tickets or Ne-Yo passes. I took the passes. I ran up and down the house, because I was trying so hard to get those concert tickets off of Hot97 but I got something better, I was going to meet Ne-Yo.
I called my best friend and she came with me to meet Ne-Yo. At the location, we was surprised to find out that we was also getting a copy of his album too. He signed it and took pictures with us. He even talked to my best friend's friend over the phone, asking her why she's wasn't here with us.
I was super hype. I never met any of my favorite singers before, and Ne-Yo was just awesome. I checked my e-mail and notice that I had a message from Def Jam. They had invited me to a special taping for Ne-Yo, happening the following Tuesday. I couldn't believe it. I was going to meet him yet again.
The club was at Soho, and I knew that I was going to tell him about Power105 not spending me my picture with him. It was time and he came out and give us a great performance. He was interacting with us and we even talked to him and crack jokes. I told him about the picture and he told me that he got me. It was so much fun. He took a new picture with me, give me a kiss when I told him that I have to leave now.
Rumors about him started to surface but I didn't care about any of that. What he does on his personal time is none of my business. I still support him.
So it was now 2007, a new year and a new album about to come out. My bestfriend called me to let me know that Ne-Yo was having a party that day and if I want to go, she will buy my ticket. But I couldn't make up my mind and missed my free ticket from her. So, I was thinking about it, a lot. I had to pay the rent, but I was hungry too. So, I went to get pizza on the next block from the landlord. There, they had the radio on and Trey Black just gave the clue to call in for the VIP tickets for Ne-Yo album release party. I called in and kept at it till I got though and won the VIP tickets. A lot of people told me that I was destined for those tickets, that those tickets were meant for me. I took my two friends with me and went half for one of them, and we all were up in VIP with Ne-Yo. Took another picture with him and my friends got their first pictures with him.
Now in 2008, nothing had changed, beside the fact that I missed some of his performances in NYC, I still got to see him. During the summer, I took a vacation to Saint Thomas, and came back darker. I went to 106 and Park the week after my birthday and met some new cool people that kept me up to date on things. I got to go to the 2000 episode. But it's when I got the e-mail about a special Ne-Yo taping that I got real excited.
The taping was awesome. And the best part that I would never forget, was that Ne-Yo picked me to dance with him during his performance "Miss Independent". And they kept it. I just don't know, when it comes to Ne-Yo, I'm meant for it.
The last time I saw him was this past Thursday at the Z100 Meet Market. I wanted to give him a early b-day card and to see if he would sing the album for me. And most of all, I wanted to get a 2008 picture with him. I had it planned because this wasn't like the other places, where I got help to meet him. I had to make it happen on my own, and that's just what I did. I met up with him on his way leaving and give him the card and got him to sign the album. Didn't get the picture because of Carter but that's ok, I still got time.
So, Ne-Yo is very special to me. Special because everything that happen with him had never happen with anybody else. I will con't to be his fan. I'm not the number 1 fan because I do have a life and I'm just not that crazy like I use to be.
